5 Ways to Incorporate More Rest and Play into Your Busy Life

Today, I want to talk about something that is often overlooked in our fast-paced, productivity-obsessed society: rest and play.

We all know the feeling of constantly being on the go, trying to juggle work, school, relationships, and everything in between. But have you ever stopped to think about the toll this takes on our mental and physical health? That’s where slowing down and making time for rest and play comes in.

So let’s dive into 5 ways to incorporate more rest and play into our busy lives:

1. Schedule it in.

Just like we schedule in meetings, appointments, and deadlines, we need to schedule in time for rest and play. It can be as simple as setting aside an hour each day to do something you enjoy or taking a whole day off from work every once in a while.

2. Disconnect from technology.

Our phones, laptops, and TVs are a constant source of distraction and stimulation, making it hard for us to truly relax. Try setting aside designated “tech-free” times, whether it’s during meals or before bed. This will give your mind and body a chance to unwind without any external distractions.

3. Get outside.

There’s no denying the power of nature in helping us slow down and find peace. Take a walk in the park, go for a hike, or simply sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. Disconnect from technology and immerse yourself in the beauty of the outdoors.

4. Practice mindfulness.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, but incorporating mindfulness into your routine can help slow things down. Take a few minutes each day to just sit and focus on your breathing or try a guided meditation. This will help you be more present and find moments of peace throughout your day.

5. Say no.

This one may be hard for some of us, but it’s important to learn how to say no to things that don’t serve us. We often feel obligated to say yes to everything, but this can lead to burnout. Be selective with your time and don’t be afraid to prioritize your own well-being.

Remember, slowing down and making time for rest and play is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. So let’s challenge the societal norm and give ourselves permission to take a break.
