Finding Your Purpose: A Journey That Evolves Over Time

In conversations with people from all walks of life, I’ve noticed a common theme—a feeling of being lost, directionless, or stuck. Maybe you’ve felt it, too. When I ask people about their biggest struggle, the response is nearly unanimous: “I don’t know what my purpose is.” And when I dig deeper, they often describe life as feeling blah, uninspired, or lacking deeper meaning.

Finding your purpose is one of the most fulfilling journeys you can embark on, but here’s the truth: your purpose is not fixed—it evolves. As you grow, change, and experience life, your sense of purpose will shift, too. And that’s completely normal.

So, whether you’re searching for your purpose for the first time or you’re reassessing what gives your life meaning, let’s dive into this universal yearning and explore how purpose evolves over time.

Your 20s: Searching for Clarity and Confidence in Your Purpose

Your 20s are often a time of exploration, learning, and self-discovery. For many, it’s a decade filled with trial and error, bouncing between different interests, jobs, and experiences. And that’s okay.

What to Keep in Mind in Your 20s:

✔️ Your first purpose doesn’t have to be your final purpose.
✔️ It’s okay to not have it all figured out. Give yourself permission to explore, fail, and grow.
✔️ Your purpose isn’t about one big moment. Sometimes, it’s about following the little sparks of curiosity that lead to something greater.

If you’re in your 20s and feeling lost, trust the process. Finding clarity takes time, and sometimes the best thing you can do is stay open to new opportunities, new people, and new experiences.

➡️ Takeaway: Your 20s are about experimenting with different paths to see what resonates with you.

Your 30s & 40s: Midlife Reflection and Reassessment

Fast forward 10-20 years, and you may find yourself in a completely different phase of life. You may have built a career, started a family, or achieved goals you once dreamed about—yet something still feels off.

For many people, midlife is a time of reevaluation. You may realize the dreams you once had no longer excite you, or that you’ve spent so much time meeting other people’s expectations that you’ve lost touch with what truly fulfills you.

What to Keep in Mind in Midlife:

✔️ It’s never too late to find a new purpose. Your purpose at 20 doesn’t have to be your purpose at 40.
✔️ Priorities shift, and that’s natural. You might have once been driven by ambition, but now you crave fulfillment, creativity, or balance.
✔️ Let go of guilt for outgrowing past passions. Just because something once mattered to you doesn’t mean it has to be your forever path.

For those who never found their purpose in their 20s because they were focused on supporting their family or simply surviving, you should be commended. Purpose isn’t just about career—it’s also about the roles we play in the lives of those around us.

➡️ Takeaway: If you feel like something is missing, that’s your invitation to reassess and realign with what truly fulfills you.

How to Discover (or Rediscover) Your Purpose

If you’re feeling lost or stuck, the good news is that finding your purpose isn’t a one-time event—it’s a lifelong journey. You can start where you are, right now. Here are a few ways to gain clarity:

1. Reflect on What Lights You Up

Think about the moments in your life when you felt most alive, most engaged, most at peace. What were you doing? Who were you with? What themes or patterns emerge?

💡 Journaling Prompt: What activity makes me lose track of time? What’s something I do that makes me feel deeply fulfilled?

2. Let Go of the “One Perfect Purpose” Myth

Many people believe that purpose is one big thing—a singular mission or calling they have to discover. But the truth is, purpose is often found in small moments and everyday actions.

Instead of putting pressure on yourself to find “THE purpose,” shift your mindset to:
✔️ What excites me today?
✔️ What impact do I want to have on others?
✔️ What small steps can I take toward fulfillment?

3. Try New Things

If you feel stuck, it might be time to step outside your comfort zone. Sign up for a class, start a creative hobby, volunteer, travel, or connect with different people. Purpose often finds us when we step into new experiences.

💡 Journaling Prompt: What’s one new thing I can try this month that excites me?

4. Find Inspiration in Others

Sometimes, learning from others who have found their sense of purpose can help spark your own journey. Here are some of my favorite purpose-driven resources:

📚 Favorite Book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – A beautiful novel about following your dreams and trusting the journey.
🎤 Favorite TED Talk: How to Find and Do Work You Love by Scott Dinsmore – A must-watch for those looking for meaningful work.
🌿 Favorite Supplement: Ashwagandha – An adaptogenic herb that reduces stress and promotes mental clarity.
🧘 Favorite Meditation: Finding Your Purpose – A guided practice to help you gain clarity (click here for audio).
📺 Favorite YouTube Video: What to Know About Finding Your Purpose – A practical deep dive into purpose discovery.

Final Thoughts: Embrace the Evolution of Your Purpose

If you feel lost, know that you are not alone. Purpose isn’t a destination—it’s a process of growth, change, and self-discovery.

No matter where you are in life:
✔️ You are allowed to change direction.
✔️ You are not behind—your timeline is your own.
✔️ You are worthy of a fulfilling life.

Your purpose is already inside you. It’s in the way you show up, care, create, give, and grow. Keep going—you are on the right path.

What’s one small step you can take today toward finding your purpose? Let’s start the conversation in the comments.

Hi love, I’m Silvia!

I’m a specialist in starting over.

Trauma revealed truths that took me to some faraway places for healing and wisdom. In Bali, South America, New Zealand, Australia, Laos, Hawaii and Malaysia, I soaked it up, took bold actions, and expanded what was possible for me.

Through all of this I learned something profound; the power of resiliency can be taught and even making a 5% change can change the future dramatically.

Now I teach women like you to access the power within you to change your life, celebrate your genius and start over to create any life you dare to dream.
