What’s a Dosha?

What’s a Dosha?

#Ayurvedic philosophy is grounded in the belief that the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether) manifest in everything. These 5 elements are expressed in 3 Doshas which are a combination of 2 elements:

Vata = Ether and Air
Pitta = Fire and Water
Kapaha = Earth and Water

Join me #AlchemyofYoga YTT #teachertraining and learn how this #alchemy of #earth #water #fire #air #ether impact your life.

Each person has a unique combination of Doshas from the time of conception. Each Dosha has characteristics that manifest physically, mentally and emotionaly in our bodies. Ayurveda strives to balance these Doshas using a combination of lifestyle choices and diet.

Every Little Step Encourages Growth

Grown up #crow pose. A reminder that every little step matters. The smaller poses of our lives create momentum to keep growing towards greater expansion.

This experience of teaching ourselves ultimately becomes the passageway for knowing how to teach others to achieve these growth points.

A great teacher knows how to break down the poses step-by-step making the preparation golden and accessible to all. They give their student the tools necessary to be successful even faster than themselves.

They inspire them to practice every day.

How to Take Your Yoga Practice Deeper

I hold space for interested students of Yoga and Spirituality to go deeper into self-discovery. Our programs are designed to give an overview of what Yoga really is on ALL levels, not just physical. My 3 week immersions are perfect for those who want to evolve with the support of a tribe and those who want community but don’t desire to teach public classes. As well as those that don’t know if they want to teach yoga. This time is for YOU first and foremost whether you choose the certification track or not. I’d love to be part of your journey to the heart of your self. Love you, Silvia

Alchemy is for everyone with the heart to take a soul plunge into their greatest happiness. Here are two options for self-study:

OPTIONS FOR SELF-STUDY

Allowing space for individual growth, Alchemy of Yoga offers two paths of study:

Option 1 includes above aspects of self-study culminating in formal certification through Yoga Alliance with 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) status. Expectations of students following this immersion-based path include:

  • Interest in studying all aspects of yoga: asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, history and theory, arising from a wish to deepen your practice and engage in self-study.
  • Commitment to attending training sessions and completing additional contact hours including asana classes, observations, assistant teaching, and practice teaching.
  • Participation in group activities and contribute to discussions.
  • Completion of all homework and practicum materials.

Option 2 includes Immersion for serious students looking to deepen their practice and knowledge of yoga asana, meditation, philosophy, and spirit who do not wish to pursue teaching yoga. As a self-study student, differences in your experience include:

  • You are not required to submit any homework although it is strongly advised that you complete the assigned readings in order to contribute to group discussions.
  • You will not be required to complete the practicum requirements.
  • You will not be graded or assessed in accordance with Yoga Alliance standards.
  • You will not beawarded a 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teaching Certificate upon completion, however you will be given a certificate of program completion as a reference for future studies or trainings.

Post-Training Mentorship: Alchemy of Yoga understands that a 200-Hour Teacher Training Program is both a deep-dive into yoga + self-study and simultaneously just the beginning. We are thrilled to offer ongoing resources and mentorship, including but not limited to:

  • Planning a yoga career + business, how to best market yourself while maintaining strong ethical standards and life balance, and how to resolve ethical issues that arise from teaching yoga.

How to Live in Inspired Life

ALCHEMY OF YOGA: HOW TO LIVE AN INSPIRED LIFE

Yoga is about wholeness, health, and vital living. It is about a life inspired in body, mind, and spirit. Through movement, meditation, discussion, and journaling, we will explore the vast resources related to How to Live an INSPIRED Life by focusing on the last three niyamas or personal practices that comprise the Alchemy of Yoga. These are necessary for bringing about real, lasting change and cultivating inner happiness and spiritual bliss.

ALCHEMYOFYOGALOGO

Experience the alchemy of the five elements, the four directions, and the chakra system as an inner and outer map of transformation. These are archetypal and energetic maps that are as metaphorical as they are very real and embodied. Everything we see, taste, touch, feel, and do can be interpreted through the gateway of the elements, directions, and chakras.

We will learn how to tap into these sacred relationships and align ourselves with their alchemy in order to gain insight into healing our psyche, emotions, and well-being.

When you join together in a Kula (“community of the heart”), we are all the Alchemist in his/her laboratory mixing the ingredients. As alchemist yogis, our laboratory is our mat and the ingredients are our bodies, our poses, our breath, our thoughts. Mixing it all together creates a different result every time and changes your life! You wake up to the power you have to go into the lab of your life experience and mix the potions you want to create your most INSPIRED life!

ABOUT BALI

Bali is an island and the smallest province of Indonesia, and includes a few smaller neighboring islands. It is located between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, and its capital—Denpasar—is at the southern part of the island.

Bali is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music.

IMG_4888Bali’s central mountains include several peaks over 3,000 meters in elevation. The highest is Mount Agung (3,031 m), known as the “mother mountain” which is an active volcano. South of the mountains is a broad, steadily descending area where most of Bali’s large rice crop is grown.

The island is surrounded by coral reefs. Beaches in the south tend to have white sand while those in the north and west have black sand. Bali received the Best Island award from Travel and Leisure in 2010. The island of Bali won because of its attractive surroundings (both mountain and coastal areas), diverse tourist attractions, excellent international and local restaurants, and the friendliness of the local people.

Alchemy of Yoga Alumni Feature Taylor Harvey

ALUMNI FEATURE: Taylor Harvey

Taylor graduated from Alchemy of Yoga’s 200-Hour Teacher Training Program in Costa Rica last year. If you feel inspired by her story and Alchemy of Yoga aligns with your heart, join our tribe! Reach out to sarah@alchemytours.com and silvia@alchemytours.com for more information.

Bali Oct 1-22, 2016

taylor harvey.jpg

A lifelong competitive soccer player, Taylor Harvey discovered her yoga practice in Seattle after two back surgeries in college left her unable to participate in many of her previous athletic endeavors. A friend suggested she try heated power vinyasa and she was hooked after her very first class!

After practicing various styles of yoga for four years, including vinyasa, hatha, and ashtanga, she completed her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training (RYT) in Costa Rica through Alchemy of Yoga. Since completing teacher training in August 2015, Taylor has been teaching yoga in Yangon, Myanmar, where she has resided for several years. She currently teaches at the only dedicated yoga studio in the country, the Yangon Yoga House, as well as at the Belmond Governor’s Residence hotel and the British Embassy’s Social Club.

“One of my favorite aspects of teaching yoga in Myanmar is that I can routinely see the effect that yoga has on my students. In many ways Myanmar is still a very challenging place to work, and many of my students work in stressful roles for development or humanitarian organizations with immense amounts of travel. In most of my classes I can see a visible reduction in tension on student’s faces between when they enter the class and when they open their eyes after savasana, which is incredibly rewarding as a teacher.

I also have a number of students who I see fairly infrequently as they are based in remote locations in Myanmar, but who have told me that attending my class in Yangon is one of the highlights of their occasional weekends here. That brings me to my other favorite thing about teaching in Myanmar – teaching here has provided an unprecedented opportunity to build a ‘community’ outside of classes.

Unlike the studios I used to attend in the United States, where most students take off immediately after class, I teach multiple classes per week here that are followed by an optional meal.  Every week I have a group of students (which varies a bit each time) who stay to relax a bit longer, connect with one another, and share experiences. It has been a really lovely way not only to get to know my students better but to share our collective experiences and support one another.”

Heart Fire Medicine

“If Earth’s WHOLE history was compressed into 24 hours beginning at midnight, organic life would begin only at 5pm…mammals emerge at 11:30pm…and from amongst them only SECONDS to midnight, our species.”

Now is our time to FIRE up and do something with this gift of life before its gone. I pray that we all embrace our individual Dharma’s today. No waiting.

If you desire inspiration, then let me with my dharma of Activation help you.

“FIRE from our SUN that fuels all LIFE drawing up plants and raising the water to the sky to fall again replenishing. This is the same fire of lightening that flashed into the primordial soup, catalyzing the BIRTH of organic life.”
-John Seed and Joanna Macy
