Sutra Saturday: Sthira Sukum Asanam

“Pilgrim, pilgrimage, and road – it was but myself toward my SELF, and your arrival was but myself at my own door.” – RUMI
.
❤️ Sutra: Sthira Sukum Asanam. (Effortless effort)
.
This fundamental Yoga Sutra of Pantanjali talks of cultivating sthira (steadiness, stability, firmness, seriousness) and sukha (gentleness, flexibility, softness, playfulness) in our mindfulness practice. The qualities denoted by these two sanskrit words can be applied to the whole of your meditation and yoga practice. Each pose should be steady and comfortable so much so that we find an effortless effort in life whereby the pose we take (walking, talking, sitting, driving) is both elegant and honest.
.
This practice of graceful effort means that some days it might be more difficult and some days it’s easy, just like life is filled with joyousness and setbacks. But the point is to take a consistently steady, but gentle, approach, to your mindfulness practice and your life.

WHERE PEACE IS BORN

“Peace follows Love energy like a shadow.” – Osho

For me peace is the manifestation of love. In other words, LOVE is what peace looks like in the light. The shadow is the sometimes ugly work of healing and recovery not many want to talk about. But that’s where Peace is born. And from that the shadow and light are united as #onelove

Don’t let people’s external presence fool you into thinking that the process to get through the healing cycle of hurt, healing, healed was pretty because most often it is not. We bring the light to the shadow and the revealing can be pretty ugly. But in that acceptance of all of ourselves, true unconditional love is spiritually birthed. It was there in gestation, for some of us a very long, lifelong gestation. Once we unite shadow and light we can so easily start to live from love, in love with yourselves, our day, our lives!

EMBRACE both Shadow AND Light: This is an integral philosophy of #AlchemyofYoga whose mission is to #TeachPeace. The world is in chaos right now and yes shadow energy is heightened. This is exactly when we need to call forth asoring #LIGHTworkers to join us to #teachlove and peace. The world needs you!

Ho’ oponopono Healing Forgiveness

Ho’ oponopono. We all benefit from help. Last night I had another healing session with a Light Worker to help me continue my healing journey. You see, I am trying to make peace in my heart once and for all with those that have hurt or betrayed me. I am tired of carrying the weight around and I dearly want to put it down and be FREE. One of the fundamental ways I love myself into healing is practicing #forgiveness. This meditation of Ho’oponopono changed my life. I hope it will yours too. Ask my anything about the practice. You see, I want us all to feel free!
.
“When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free, Ho’oponopono is the Key Element and Love is the Ho’oponopono means to “make right” and is the Hawaiian code for forgiveness.
.
Ho’oponopono restores your light or energy body and your e-motion, or energy in motion. Through your light body you are connected with all of life. Through your e-motion you are always affecting everyone around you by your thoughts, words, feelings and actions. Ho’oponopo #Meditation is an ancient Hawaiian tradition for healing. By reciting the prayer one releases any negativity that keeps you from true happiness. Find more about Zero Limits by Joe Vitale.
.
❤️ Ho’ oponopono Meditation: Let’s try it together please put your left hand on your heart and ask Source to infuse all with divine light. Say aloud or silently these statements.
I love you
I am sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
.
Ho’oponopono restores your light or energy body and your e-motion, or energy in motion. Through your light body you are connected with all of life. Through your e-motion you are always affecting everyone around you by your thoughts, words, feelings and actions.
.
Through the power of grace you can know the blessing of absolute and unconditional self love and acceptance. In truth when you love yourself completely you love everything and everyone through all dimensions of time and space. This simple act of transmutation, bringing your darkness into the light, provides wonderful nourishment for your soul. The Ho’oponopono Ritual empowers you to shine with brilliance and renewed Self love.
.
Ho’oponopono in essence means to make things right with your ancestors, or to make right with the people with whom you are connected, and have relationships, and most especially yourself
.
Oh Divine Mother, Divine Father, archangels and angels, my guides, ancestors, teachers, friends, and all those who love me hear me now.
I come before you with my heart opened in humble gratitude for my soul’s journey.
.
I acknowledge my unfolding and nourish the flames of my heart, mind, and soul with the beauty I create in the world. Bless my footsteps as I walk upon my path so that I may always remember the road that leads to the truth of the flame within me.
And so it is

STOP PUSHING AND PULLING

STOP PUSHING AND PULLING
by Silvia Mordini

Wishing you a day of effortless effort where you are not feeling pulled or pushed. And a day where you aren’t the one doing the pushing or pulling. I know from experience every time you push your partner, he or she will pull back and when we try to pull at them to stay longer they will then push away. It’s the win-lose scenario of dualism. Imagine how strong a person has to be that when you push them they don’t react to your pushing. All while at the same time they are careful not to overcompensate for the initial push in order to maintain balance. Whew! That’s not fun.

But when we follow the lead of our breath and stop pushing and pulling at the people in our lives it all makes for living an easeful life. On the mat we practice recognizing energies of Pushing and Pulling, Dvesa and Raga, so we can live better off the mat. Take to heart the words of Judith Lasater who writes, “in life we are pulled between trying to get what you want and trying to avoid what you don’t want. Pulling and Pushing away both limit our freedom.” What is freedom? To me is about learning to be happy with what life is offering you (reducing the extremes of pushing and pulling). It’s so simple.
.
⭐️This concept is from the Yoga Sutras:

Yoga Sutras Chapter 2, Verse 7
Excessive fondness for pleasant experiences causes longing. Attachment (Raga) which is PULLING
.
Yoga Sutras Chapter 2, Verse 8
Excessive avoidance of unpleasant experiences causes contempt. Aversion (Dvesa) which is PUSHING
.
On and off the mat we can be aware of what we are thinking:
1. Where are your thoughts PUSH energy? Push thoughts are things like “I don’t want to hold this pose, I don’t want to try this new or difficult variation”
.
2. Where are your thoughts PULL energy? Pull thoughts might be things like “I need another Sun Salutation,” “I have to do 35 vinyasas per class no matter what,”
.
When we aren’t pushing away positive change or pulling at it either, we remain on easy speed and life becomes a Win-Win. Try it and see!
.
Love yourself, love your day, love your life! Silvia

EFFORT

EFFORT
I share this #truth in class often, the person who makes it look the easiest has fallen the most.
Never forget real life versus a photo on social media is messy and full of effort and falling.
.
“Life’s efforts also bring failures. But it is not about how to avoid those things. It is about how you handle them in a way that helps you to preserve your self-esteem and move forward when they happen.
.
Because if you want to go outside of your comfort zone, if you want to do things that really matter then you will stumble, you will fail from time to time. It is normal.” -Henrik, Positivity Blog
.
It took me years of effort and showing up on my mat to create this shape. Let me repeat that part, it took my YEARS. I would try and try and nothing would happen until one day all the steps towards flying came together. And now I still have to keep practicing this pose or it goes away. It’s a flying hip opener that requires core integrity and upper body strength along with wrist flexibility.
.
❤️Yoga is a practice of millimeters. ❤️
Achievement can look invisible.
Make the effort anyway.
.
But if it’s worth it to you, then stay the course.
.
#HappinessRx ⭐️ Where in your life do you need a reminder to keep making the effort, to not give up? Tag a friend who needs to hear that too. ⭐️

Recovering Perfectionist Embracing Messy Life

Real life. A little messy.
.
I wouldn’t want it any other way. I am in love with imperfect people. I find beauty in imperfection. My favorite personal moments are right after yoga when I’m unshowered, or when I first wake up in the morning, taking off my helmet after a long scooter ride or after 24 hour travel days.
.
I relate easiest to rumpled people who aren’t afraid to show me what they look like when they cry ugly. My fellow travelers who wear the same three outfits for three months. The natural fashionistas who make magic with two scarves and a hat. You are beautiful to me after you’ve danced wildly for an hour and aren’t just “glowing” but are so sweaty your clothes are sticky. I am happiest together when we eat with pure joy and I see little bits fall on your lap and you’re not embarrassed. I appreciate people who gobble up cookies or gelato and aren’t afraid to wear some around the corners of their mouth. I love meeting you on the beach when the wind has whipped your hair around in an odd way. I really like it when you make that weird face. I especially love when you turn the wrong way in yoga or lift your other right leg up.
.
Honestly, your messiest side is what I like most about you. 😊
.
I’ve learned more about compassion and forgiveness from my most imperfect relationships. To me perfection is a delusion based on pretending to be what others want us to be. It is the contrary to authenticity. I’d rather we just be ourselves.
.
I’m enamored with places in the world like Bali where the chaos is in plain view instead of hidden away under ground. I’ve come to appreciate exposed wires and chickens wondering around and no traffic lights. I don’t see flaws I see diversity. I travel to places where I can’t control the outcomes and where life is messy on the surface but underneath things are calm. Instead of what it’s like in the USA where our imperfections are hidden from sight but inside we are falling apart.
.
Even right now I have what you might think are too many windows open on my laptop. My fridge isn’t as orderly as it could be and my underwear drawer is pure chaos. My socks keep losing their mates and there’s constantly sand in my Birkenstock clogs. I have a ton of little tubes of almost finished creams and 5 tooth brushes that finally feel soft enough.
.
The best experiences of life are messy.
Sex, eating, sleeping.
.
What I know is that if we wait until we think we’re good enough, perfect enough, to really live fully and do what we want, well the truth is the waiting will be forever.
.
So we might as well get on with it. And along the way give grace to everyone we meet who are just doing the best they can too, imperfectly.
.
Today do me a favor, give someone a second chance. Maybe that means you.
.
And let go of the self Shaming when you don’t get things “right” the first, second or third time. That’s the name of one of my books, “A Third Chance.”
.
Oh, by the way, I am a recovering perfectionist. I healed myself by #meditating more, traveling the world, and allowing love but also pain to be my teachers.

What is the Key Obstacle to a Happier Life?

Beloved #Bali Monday Musings: The biggest obstacle to a happier life is our own busy mind.
Once we access that contented, peaceful state that yoga and meditation bring, we no longer struggle in our thoughts.
Then we can actually remember we already have the key to our joy. It’s right here, right now.
.
Or as Danna Faulds puts it so poetically…
“Within us lie the answers to our deepest questions and the antidote for all our fears.
The divine is not an abstraction – it’s as clear and intimate as a heartbeat or a whisper.
.
For me, what Bali helped me rediscover was the quiet within my own mind but in a deeper way than ever before. The culture is based in Gratitude, and the Balinese people are tender hearted, generous and live in the present moment. They are anchored to peace in the now. It is the mirroring neurons at work, or vibrational energy at its best, and it works. It’s why I go back to live year after year.
.
I’m excited for Jenny from Canada who just signed up for our #Bali #yogaretreat April 22-29! She joins an amazing tribe. We have 3 spots left with @hajibasimmusic and me and that’s all. If you’ve tried a lot of other stuff to get back to a calm mind and none of it has worked that well then why not try this. Get “unbusy” and Let Love Lead you to Bali to #growyourhappy forever more. I’d love that. 🙂

How to Meditate – No Wrong Way

Starting and sustaining a #meditation practice is one of the key Happiness Prescriptions I follow everyday. It’s the heart of my teachings.
1. Sit down
2. Stop moving
3. Repeat every day.
.
The actual sitting down and just being with yourself is where most people stop. They believe there is some right or wrong way to be still. Truthfully, that’s just your ego’s way of trying to tell you you’re no good at it before you even started. The ego also loves to try and tell you that you’ll do it wrong.
.
☮️ Do not listen, drop that story!
.
This is why it’s called a meditation #practice. There’s no need to be perfect in your practice. We all have good days and bad days. It’s the same with meditation. You will have great experiences and seemingly not so great ones.
.
I’d love to inspire you to TRY #meditation ❤️

3 Ways to Be Happy – Happiness Prescriptions

Seeking Happiness by Silvia Mordini

Happiness is a continuous state of quiet joy that exists in the moment from the inside out. Happiness is what love looks like. It is the manifestation of what it means to love ourselves, love our day, love our lives.

“Contentment is about falling in love with your life.” – Swami Rama

As seekers of happiness it is important to understand how much of it depends on internal versus external factors. Based on her research, in her 2007 book The How of Happiness, positive psychology researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky concluded that roughly 50 percent of happiness is determined by our genes and 10 percent by our life circumstance, but 40 percent depends on our daily activities.

This 50% is what is commonly known as our Happiness Set Point. The great news is that we have the power to influence 40% of our happiness.

You can seek daily activities that inspire enthusiasm. This is why Yoga Festivals like Sedona Yoga Festival or Bali Spirit Festival are a Happiness Reset. For four days you choose exactly those events that you are most passionate about such as going on a hike, taking a Handstand Workshop, Yoga Nidra, Kundalini Yoga or kicking back listening to amazing musicians share what they love.

The yogic philosophy of Santosha, often translated to mean contentment, is about living into your choices and within those happenings loving what life is offering us moment to moment. Finding the peaceful joy that is our natural state is the return to self that a weekend at a yoga festival brings about.

“Happiness depends on ourselves.” – Aristotle.

1. Take Responsibility

How to be Happy starts with taking responsibility for the quality of your life. When we are willing to accept accountability, it gets easier to authentically describe what we want our happiest life to feel like. From there, the whole world opens up!

“Happy people avoid blame in all its incarnations. They don’t blame other people, they don’t blame circumstances, and they don’t blame themselves. To happy people, blame serves no purpose. It doesn’t ever get us what we truly desire. In fact happy people not only avoid blame but they also avoid its family members envy, greed and jealousy – which are among the key indicators of unhappiness.” -The Choices Happy People Make

2. Choose Now

The act of waiting for happiness to be happy, or “happiness procrastination” as I refer to it, can be paralyzing. If we have a prerequisite of a certain condition taking place to facilitate happiness then we’ll always be waiting as opposed to being happy in the moment. If we fool ourselves into believing that we have to understand the reasons why we’re unhappy, the result will be getting stuck in that state of unhappiness. Instead choose those activities that spark joy, stop over intellectualizing your choices and live in the present.

What’s so important about being in the moment? Spiritual practice teaches us that the present moment is the source of healing, love, inspiration, and happiness. In fact, the purest form of happiness is found in the present moment. The yogis call this power of presence shakti. But to reap these benefits, we can’t just have fleeting moments of presence. We have to stay long enough in the present moment to really soak in the happiness.

Apply this Happiness Rx (Prescription):
• Each day take time away from your electronics and have a face-to-face conversation (instead of Face-to-book)
• Each week take one Media Detox day without technology (tv, laptop, cell phones, ect)
• Each month plan a nature trip whether it’s hiking in the mountains or walking the beach.
• Take a long weekend each year to attend a Wanderlust Festival for a happiness reset.
• Each year go on retreat where you can unplug from your business life for a week.
• At the end of the year, take a business “savasana” where you celebrate all that you attempted and accomplished and find pleasure in resting in that knowledge.

3. Stoke Your Passion!

Happiness is a direct experience of enthusiasm. Remember, it is not how or when we accomplish something that matters most, it is the sense of enthusiasm during the process that demonstrates our quality of life. Enthusiasm gives us the chance to go beyond our happiness set point. The foundational teachings of yoga tell us that joy is our birthright. That doesn’t mean it comes easy: It takes real effort. However, this exertion is well worth it and we should never let a day go by without putting forth our best effort to live with passion.

Practice this Mantra: I love myself, I love my day, I love my life!
