What Compassion Looks Like in Vinyasa

Compassion in Action – What I’ve dedicated my life to.

Green Tara is usually depicted as a compassionate being (Mother Buddha) ready to step down from her lotus throne to offer comfort and protection from all of the sufferings we experience in the world.

This was filmed with the mantra om tare tuttare ture swaha in mind.

Mantra Meaning: From your heart of compassion, please help me to let go and release all blockages so I may have peace, clarity and happiness.

In the teachings of the Dalai Lama he reminds us “that when we chant the Green Tara mantra, we are not simply asking for Tara’s blessings and help with our lives and our “real world” problems. Actually, we are also asking to be liberated from the misery of the mental delusions and negative emotions that blind us to true freedom, and to achieve the same enlightened body, speech and mind that Tara represents, not only for our own benefit, but for the benefit of all sentient beings.”

For me being near the water always promotes the feminine, lunar energy of nurturance. I need that in my life and I know you do too. Jim’s sound vibration makes this mantra even more powerful. I appreciate how he adds in English lyrics as well, “the secret of feeling alive is to love.” You also see me wearing multiple malas, one set are from Laos, “Mother Buddha” beads. They comfort me at all times.

All of the quotes within the video are from Rumi whose writings to me exemplify universal LOVE.

What Does It Mean to be Devoted?

_DSC1966Every year on our Bali Yoga Retreat we bring our tribe to an epic Kecak performance which depicts the Ramayana, an epic Sanskrit poem (and the most well-known portrayal of Hanuman.) It is the telling of the story of Rama including his friendship with Hanuman his devoted friend, protector, and warrior.

His devotion to his best friend Rama is unmatched.

For your self-reflection: Journaling prompts

What does it mean to you be devoted?

Does devotion have to be spiritual?

What does it truly mean to be devoted, in a spiritual sense?

I looked up synonyms for devotion and it says dedication, care, commitment, and enthusiasm. Did those themes come across for you?

What in your life is worth your devotion (dedication, commitment)?

What do you really care about so much that you will stick with it.

What is the relationship between devotion and love?

What in your life is worth giving yourself to completely?

Where has your devotion been unappreciated?

Where have you received total devotion from another?

The Alchemy of Devotion is a form of potent energy. There is something so infinitely valuable about what we give our hearts to. Today in your life, are you ready to step into the current of grace with both feet? If your heart says this is the right situation then move beyond what is holding you back. Devote yourself completely for a day, a week, a year, and a lifetime. Make this your most important sadhana.

In your practice on the mat tomorrow try making every pose an act of devotion. Notice the difference in tonality and echo of what returns to you.

Love yourself, love your day, love your life! Silvia

PS – Hanumanasana, the splits is named for Hanuman.
The story goes that Hanuman is the son of Anjana and Vayu (wind god). He has various powers one of which is to make himself BIG (mahima).

Vinyasa Yoga for Green Tara by Silvia Mordini

All I hope for the world is Compassion.

Divinitree and Why Yoga Studios Are Important

I wrote an article “Why Yoga Studios are Important.” Every class at ‪#‎Divinitree‬ in Santa Cruz is an amazing reminder, but yesterday with Jim BeckwithAnn Averbach and Emily Perry was an especially Magical ‪#‎Alchemy‬!

“Yoga studios are essential for both the student and the teacher. In this digital, social, media-energized virtual world, it is evident to me that people still crave human connection.

The most important contribution studios offer is community. Community defined simply is a place for gathering. A place where hearts can connect. A place where interaction and relationships develop in personal face-to-face relationships.

What Yoga Studios Can Provide:
Yoga studios provide that space where we can connect, learn, support, and celebrate each other. For students, this is critical in fostering personal growth and highest self-study, or svadhyaya. As students, we need teachers who can actually be with us.

For the teacher, it provides a consistent platform to offer their special gifts and unique styles. It fosters deeper, more intimate, and long-lasting relationships with the student. It also offers a place to call home.” Published by DoYouYoga.com

Courage to Leave the House

Jim Beckwith writes, “My mind stops me from doing a lot of things that might be worth doing.

How many times have you been pulled out of your tendency to stay, to not move to not go out into the world to experience something new. I once had a friend who’s motto was “good things happen when you leave the house”. You have to step out of your comfort zone a bit to experience life.”

For whatever reason that hit home more than usual today.
1. I am a lifelong adventurer, spiritual seeker, global citizen by birth.
2. I also, like my friend Marc Titus, have PTSD along with being a TBI survivor. My first experience of PTSD was from a hit & run accident 20+ years ago. And most recently related to the TBI from 2 years ago.

For a while, this combination stopped me from “leaving the house.” But again and again through divine intervention I dug deep into universal love to give me the courage to “step out of my comfort zone.”

This mantra of Every Day is New saved me. I can always break Free because it’s up to me. (Along with support of friends and family.)
