Meditate and Lessen the Drama
By Silvia Mordini

You would think that the yoga would make the process of meditation go faster. I thought it would too. But even now, when I meditate, it still feels a little like watching tv in my mind. Perhaps I’ve dropped my digital subscription, and there are fewer channels than I’ve had in the past, but certainly, I still have the stories. Instead of engaging, I simply watch my thoughts without expecting anything in particular. As a result, the dramas in my conscious life have lessened. The inner quiet I yearned for during meditation didn’t always happen, but a peaceful essence transitions into my regular life.

In short, my meditation can be loud but it makes my life more quiet.

This isn’t how I thought it would work. But I am happy to say in retrospect that it makes sense. Try it and see for yourself. Set your clock for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 8 minutes and then 10 minutes as you build up your ability to be with your internal noise. You will, like me, realize that your outer life becomes more peaceful. Don’t expect anything while you are meditating stay open and free to allowing anytihng to be, to be. The stable place of peace will be revealed and during the course of your normal day you will remember it exists so your choices become mindful responses rather than reactions.

This is how meditating will help you be mindfully in love with your life.

Love yourself, love your day, love your life! Silvia

Here is a meditation and a breathing technique to help you lessen the drama.

Meditation Smoke Out, Light in Meditation:
– While breathing out, imagine that all your negative energies, mistakes, misunderstandings and emotions leave your body with the breath. Visualise this energy as black smoke, which goes out into space and completely disappears.
– While breathing in, imagine that all the positive energy of the universe enters your body with the breath. Visualise this positive energy as pure white light that enters all the parts of your body; it pervades every cell and atom. Enjoy this clear white light.
– If you feel comfortable, use every breath to inhale light and to exhale black smoke and problems.
– When distracted by other thoughts, simply observe them without getting involved; transform them into black smoke and breathe them out.

Sutra Saturday: Sthira Sukum Asanam

“Pilgrim, pilgrimage, and road – it was but myself toward my SELF, and your arrival was but myself at my own door.” – RUMI
❤️ Sutra: Sthira Sukum Asanam. (Effortless effort)
This fundamental Yoga Sutra of Pantanjali talks of cultivating sthira (steadiness, stability, firmness, seriousness) and sukha (gentleness, flexibility, softness, playfulness) in our mindfulness practice. The qualities denoted by these two sanskrit words can be applied to the whole of your meditation and yoga practice. Each pose should be steady and comfortable so much so that we find an effortless effort in life whereby the pose we take (walking, talking, sitting, driving) is both elegant and honest.
This practice of graceful effort means that some days it might be more difficult and some days it’s easy, just like life is filled with joyousness and setbacks. But the point is to take a consistently steady, but gentle, approach, to your mindfulness practice and your life.

Slow Down

Ask yourself, what would taking really good care of myself look like today?
#HappinessRx: Your soul talks to you every day, but if you’re too busy, you can’t hear what it’s trying to say.

Listen closely and try these 5 tips to love your life more.
1. Slow down.
2. Practice taking 5 deep breaths right now.
3. Hold a glass of water in both your hands until the water becomes perfectly still. Then drink the water imagining it’s filling your body with stillness and peace.
4. Practice savasana. Only savasana as your yoga today.
5. Meditate on love. Saying to yourself slowly “I love myself, I am love, I am loved.”
Instead of choosing with your mind, try SOULECTING select with your soul.
Your soul always has you on easy speed. It wants you to be present and live #mindfullyinlove 💕

It’s easy to ignore the signs of going too fast. The sleeplessness can be pushed aside, at least for a while. The increasing anxiety remedied by numbing out or ignoring it seems to work for bit, until it doesn’t. The aches and pains, waking up and feeling worried already. These are no normal ways to experience life. These are your body’s way of saying SLOW DOWN. All we have to do is pay attention.

Get off the treadmill and get back on the natural pace of life. Relearn how to relax and just be with what is happening around you without needing it to go faster. You’ll find out it’s the remedy to love yourself, love your day and love your life!

More about my hair.
I love long hair and always will.
Last year at this time I cut 11 inches off.
I’ve been growing it out the second the hair dropped to the ground. But I had to do it. It was part of my shedding old pain and an old life.
I had done the work but was literally carrying around the storylines of how my life was supposed to be and I couldn’t get out from under the weight.
So I cut off my hair.
Can you see now how it’s growing? 😊
It’s not as long as I want it and I haven’t fully lived into my new life, but it’s progress none the less. And I’m really proud of that. 🙏
It’s not easier for me than someone else because I’m a #spiritual #teacher of #love #peace and #mindfulness. It’s still challenging! Recovery from near death, going blind, being in four hospitals and then heart break this last 3-4 years has been the hardest time of my life.
But it was necessary for my soul to grow and be now ready to meet my #soulmate ❤️ He’s almost here, I can feel it.
And in the meantime my hair will keep growing as long as a #mermaid😍“Darwin may have been quite correct in his theory that man descended from the apes of the forest, but surely woman rose from the frothy sea, as resplendent as Aphrodite on her scalloped chariot.”

How to Meditate – No Wrong Way

Starting and sustaining a #meditation practice is one of the key Happiness Prescriptions I follow everyday. It’s the heart of my teachings.
1. Sit down
2. Stop moving
3. Repeat every day.
The actual sitting down and just being with yourself is where most people stop. They believe there is some right or wrong way to be still. Truthfully, that’s just your ego’s way of trying to tell you you’re no good at it before you even started. The ego also loves to try and tell you that you’ll do it wrong.
☮️ Do not listen, drop that story!
This is why it’s called a meditation #practice. There’s no need to be perfect in your practice. We all have good days and bad days. It’s the same with meditation. You will have great experiences and seemingly not so great ones.
I’d love to inspire you to TRY #meditation ❤️

Why I Teach Dharma

What I hope students remember most about our time together whether it’s an hour, a day or a week is #Mindfulness. The main message of my #dharma is to remind everyone that THIS IS NOT A REHEARSAL.

I hope we can spend time together at Prana del Mar Nov 25 – Dec 2 or Dec 2-9. I’d love to inspire you!

“When it comes right down to it, the challenge of mindfulness is to realize that “this is it” Right now is my life. The question is, What is my relationship to it going to be? Does my life just automatically “happen” to me? Am I a total prisoner of my circumstances or my obligations, of my body or my illness, or of my history? Do I become hostile or defensive or depressed if certain buttons get pushed, happy if other buttons are pushed, and frightened if something else happens? What are my choices? Do I have any options? It is an important point is to grasp the value of bringing the practice of mindfulness into the conduct of our daily lives. Is there any waking moment of your life that would not be richer and more alive for you if you were more fully awake while it was happening?”- Jon Kabat-Zinn

Meditation is like Aerobic Exercise for Your Mind

“Meditation is to the mind what aerobic exercise is to the body. Like exercise, there are many good ways to do it and you can find the one that suits you best. Meditation is the quintessential training of attention. Since attention is like a vacuum cleaner – sucking its contents into your brain through what’s called “experience-dependent neuroplasticity” – getting better control of your attention is the foundation of changing your brain, and thus your life, for the better.” – Rick Hanson, neuropsychologist and author of Hardwiring Happiness, Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom
Just like aerobic exercise the only way to get the benefit of #Meditation is to do it.
I would be honored to teach you #mindfulness meditation on a #yogaretreat or #yogateachertraining or invite me to your #yoga studio to lead a workshop.

My New Normal

3 years ago I chose to embrace a “new normal” after TBI. Thank goddess for my mindfulness meditation practice, faith in Divine love, mantra, singing and high happiness set point. 🙏💚

I’ve always loved the physicality of the asana because achievement seems visible, while at the same time 99% of “the work” is invisible. This saved my spirit from collapsing under the weight of the #NewNormal.

My progress in recovery is challenging to observers because I look healthy on the outside. Because my injury is invisible people assume I am fine. From the outside looking in it’s hard to understand. From the inside looking out, it’s hard to explain. Meanwhile on a daily basis I have to navigate more speed bumps than I had to before in my old life.

Think about what a speed bump requires you to do? Slow down.

It takes me longer. Still does. You have no ideas how much effort I have to put into all that I do as compared to before.  I am processing, just more slowly. I’m high functioning, but slower. My new normal has given me an enhanced opportunity, a gift to #BePresent. I am more grounded.

And of all the things I don’t miss about the old me, the triple A personality pitta powered push thru it mentality, is the breakneck speed at which I was living life.

This is not a race.

It certainly isn’t a sprint to the finish line if we’re lucky. Life, if lived gently paced, is a marathon.

Calm is my Superhero power.

This foot behind the head pose looks easy. The truth is it took a long time to get here. What’s visible today was for many years invisible.

And sometimes what’s invisible is visible if you lean in and see thru the eyes of your heart and less so with your mind.

Today, I ask myself, what is right there in front of me that I’m not seeing? What is possible for me? Do I have the patience to look more deeply?

Yoga makes the invisible world visible and the visible world invisible. It works it’s magic both ways.

Love yourself, love your day, love your life!
