I just got asked this same question,
“How are you still single?”
I get where you’re coming from, it’s meant to be a “compliment.”
It also feels like a micro aggression because it implies a lot of things, a couple of which are:
- Being single is not an acceptable choice.
I certainly can’t want this.
. - It assumes no one chooses me.
Because the fact I might not choose them back can’t be happening.
.
And so much more.
.
It also most often gets accompanied with uncomfortable laughter and undertones of pity.
.
There are incredulous follow up questions after I say why I’m single (watch video for my standard response.)
.
🤔 How could I possibly be happy being single?
.
AND, is something secretly wrong with me? (Ah no.)
.
🔥❤️ Here’s the thing, if you’re not happy by yourself, you won’t be happy in healthy relationship.
.
“You complete me,” from Jerry McGuire movie is a BS story too many of us accepted as truth.
.
A happy couple is made from two happy people. (Dr William Holden from the book Be Happy.)
.
Until you love yourself and your own company, the foundation won’t be strong enough to build conscious partnership with your beloved.
